'My Place' Art Quilts
A display of very personal and contemporary art quilts will be on show at CraftExpo.
My Place is a travelling exhibition of quilts from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa curated by Jeanette Botha (Republic of South Africa), Dijanne Cevaal (Australia) and Anne Scott (New Zealand). Thirty pieces from each country were selected.
“As one of the curators of the exhibition it has been interesting to see how some of the works from each of the three countries speaks so distinctly of place and how others speak evocatively of shared interests and universality,” comments curator Dijanne Cevaal. “The colours used also [reflect] very distinct differences between our countries.”
Cevaal will conduct floortalks in the exhibition area each day at 11.30am and 2.30pm (no bookings required). The quilts have been exhibited in South Africa, New Zealand and in Brisbane, Australia. They will travel to Europe in 2010 to be exhibited at Carrefour Européen du Patchwork in France – one of the major quilt and textile art events in Europe.
