At this year’s CraftExpo members will be displaying a myriad of crafts from their workshops and exhibition. Marvel at the hundreds of leaves made from different fabrics and techniques. Crafts as diverse as patchwork, embroidery, basketry, sewing, dressmaking, spinning, weaving and knitting will be represented.

Demonstrations of techniques such as spinning, knitting, patchwork, embroidery, beadwork, smocking, bobbin lace, tatting and basketry will take place each day at the display. Members will be happy to speak about the various projects they are working on and are always willing to help out if you have questions or a problem with your own craft activity.
Strangely this group was formed from rejection – in 1975 a lady used her craft skills to make a creative piece for an art exhibition but her work was rejected. Since then the group has been encouraging people to increase their body of craft knowledge and use it in creative ways. Most members’ work employs a mixture of media with some using their painting skills to enhance their fibre art. The group now averages 100 members with new ones welcomed all the time, and anyone moving out of Townsville becoming “Country Members”.
