Quilts celebrating 80 years of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Australia

To honour the service's special anniversary, the Victorian Quilters Inc have coordinated a special competition, Under Flynn's Wings, which will be displayed at CraftExpo Townsville in 2009.

Entrants have been asked to design a quilt depicting the work and/or environment of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

In 1928 the Royal Flying Doctor Service was established to bring health care to those who live, work and travel in the remote areas of Australia. Pioneered by the Reverend John Flynn through the combination of medicine, aviation and radio, the service has now grown into one of the most respected organisations in the world and services an area equivalent to the size of Western Europe.
